It’s been quite a while since I’ve picked up a deck and played a good old game of Magic: The Gathering. I will admit that I’ve started to miss the game but getting back into it seems to be a little difficult at the moment. Luckily Battle Bunker Cavendish is hosting a tournament that is set to be one of the largest Cape Town has seen by being one of the most accessible to players.

Instead of being a Constructed or Draft event, The Mother of all Tournaments will be making use of the 30 card Magic Origins demo decks to ensure that there is a level playing field, at least in terms of cards. This means that anyone, whether you’re new to the game or been playing for ages, can play in this fun tournament that looks to bring as much of the South African MTG community together as possible. The aim of this is to show Wizards of the Coast that the South African players are a force to be reckoned with and deserve their own Grand Prix.

So how do you get involved you ask? Well the event details are as follows:

Be prepared for the biggest event ever seen in Cape Town.

Date : 31 January 2016

Venue : Battle Bunker Cavendish

Entrance fee :R50

Registration : 9am-10:45am

Starts :11am

On arrival you will be given a random colour 30 card Magic Origins Demo Deck.

Dependent on the number of players we will play a certain amount of rounds. At a specific point we will cut to top 40 players ( Based on 200 players ) If we have 180 players we will cut to Top 32.

We are aiming at 200+ players to make this the largest event in the history of South African Magic the Gathering. This will put Cape Town on the MTG Map. If successful we will be hosting larger /similar tournaments during 2016.

The purpose if for experienced players to have fun and be rewarded with a drafting experience and for new players to have the experience of competing in a large event.

I know for certain that I will be there to enjoy what is set to be an awesome event that will probably drag me back into the world of Magic: The Gathering. Please keep my wallet in your thoughts after this weekend.

The best person to offer the worst opinion. Paul's interests include adding 100 hour JRPGs to his backlog and dark walks through dungeons. You'll probably find him rambling on about old man Nintendo or that crazy newfangled eSports thingy.
