Remember a little while back when the DGL Masters were announced and we were told that SuperSport broadcast the event? Well it looks like those wheels have been set in motion as SuperSport will air highlights of IEM Katowice later this evening.

“Local research indicates that eSports will soon become ubiquitous, especially with Generation-Zers who grew up on gaming devices and cellphones.”

You heard it here first folks. After extensive research, the obvious is indeed obvious. Let’s crack out the bubbly, we’ve finally figured it all out.

Jabs aside, it’s nice to see that they’ve decided to air shorter eSports segments before they start covering something on the scale of the DGL Masters. It’s going to be interesting to see how SuperSport’s audience reacts to non-traditional sports being aired on their channel of champions but hey, maybe the small doses will build them in to eSports fans.

In order to begin their decent into eSports, SuperSport will be broadcasting highlights of last weekend’s Intel Extreme Masters that were held in Katowice, Poland. These highlights will be broadcast across the SuperSport channels acording to the following schedule:

Even though it’s great that we’ll be getting eSports on to local television, it remains to be seen how well it is received. Let’s face it, the people that are watching eSports are already watching eSports. Anyone who isn’t is probably not going to start now with some highlights package of an event that they may not even understand. It’s going to be interesting to see what this effect this broadcast has on local eSports but in any case, you best be prepared to start explaining the games come tomorrow evening.

The best person to offer the worst opinion. Paul's interests include adding 100 hour JRPGs to his backlog and dark walks through dungeons. You'll probably find him rambling on about old man Nintendo or that crazy newfangled eSports thingy.
