Is Batman the suit or the Man? Is Bruce Wayne the Man or the Mask? What happens when Bruce is replaced in the roll yet again?
If we had the answers to any of that, there wouldn’t be such an abundance of Batman material out there. Personally I doubt I would be able to deal with the loss.
Anyway, this is not a statue of Bruce Wayne. This is a Dick Grayson statue.
Though to be perfectly honest, it’s unlikely that anyone is going to be too concerned that it isn’t Bruce Wayne underneath the cowl.
As always, before I go on, a quick shout out to Shane and Karyn from Cosmic Comics for hooking me up with this statue and thus making this review possible.

Onward and forward, as we look at the Two A’s (ie Aesthetics and Aish-Factor) for the statue.
AESTHETICS
As you know each of these statues is rendered in the unique art style of a profiled artist.
This particular one is based off artwork by Jock. Jock is best known for his vivid, almost “moody” art style that showcases characters in dynamic albeit forbearing poses. I realise that that description is a difficult one to put together in one’s mind.
Do yourself a favour and Google the man’s work and it will make sense.
Better yet get yourself this statue…
Seriously, I own close on 30 of these statues now and I have to say that this is easily the most dynamic of them all!
Batman is showcased as swooping down from above with a batarang and rope trailing behind him. His widespread arms and windswept cape creates the impression of him being in free fall. One can almost imagine the great speed he must be moving at. His grim visage and the deft handling of the bat rope are a nice touch. This may not be Bruce… but it’s definitely Batman.
Dynamic enough for you?
This cold cast porcelain piece features a fair amount of black wash throughout. This accentuates its sharp edges and adds to the dynamism of the piece.
Measuring close to 24 cm with the extended cape, it’s a bit larger than most other pieces in this line.
Summarily, this is undoubtedly a beautiful piece of work that does justice to Jock’s work.
AISH! – Factor
The statue’s unique selling point is undoubtedly the dynamic pose. While its greatest feature, it can also be a point of consternation.
As you can see from the gallery below, the statue is displayed face first with the cape facing you. While I love the look I was a little disappointed that placing it at eye level in my display means that I can’t appreciate the details on the opposite side.
If you display it the other way around, you are greeted by a close up of Batman’s crotch.
Not exactly flattering I assure you.
At eye level I also found that I couldn’t appreciate the grim visage of the Dark Knight. Ultimately all the intricate sculpt work ends up being lost.
To overcome the issue in order to appreciate the piece, I had to display it at above eye level. Never an appealing thought for such a fragile piece.
The cape scallops are prone to damage so I opted to keep mine on a lower shelf. This limits its display potential a little with is annoying for a statue.
Still better safe than sorry. I guess I will just have to pick it up gently when I want to look at it properly in future. Annoying. Though necessary-especially with the cost of collecting these days.
Display woes aside, the statue itself is well constructed. I was impressed by the short metal rod attached to the standard base which does a great job balancing the statue. Considering the sculpt, this is no easy feat and is nothing to sneer at.
Yes, the statue is a little more challenging to display meaningfully than I would like.
Still, the pose is unique and the sculpting and paint work is immaculate bating a few QC issues here and there.
Overall, it is still a worthwhile piece to invest in.
A wonderful and true testament to the inspiring artwork. This statue elicits a resounding “AAIIISSHH!!!”

A beautifully detailed statue that successfully renders the source material in cold cast porcelain. A little frustrating to display but no less amazing to behold. Definitely worth picking up.
