Travel writer Bill Bryson (Robert Redford) takes a long-lost old friend (Nick Nolte) for a hike along the Appalachian Trail, which stretches more than 2,000 miles from Georgia to Maine.

What I Thought

From director Ken Kwapis comes proof that Robert Redford is in fact not dead and alive and well at the side of Nick Nolte who both decided it’s a good idea for two grandpa’s to walk 2000 miles while exchanging useless dialogue and aimless banter. I didn’t really enjoy this film but it’s still special in it’s own way. It’s one of those films you can watch with your parents on a Sunday afternoon without having to worry too much about having to pay attention or there being any offensive content in it. It’s a charming little film about 2 old guys walking around which is based on the story by Bill Bryson who was in his 40’s when he attempted the same adventure.

While this film might be amazing for your dad – it probably won’t give you any kicks since most people seem to have forgotten who the two lead actors they decided to cast for this film even are.

The DVD doesn’t feature too much in the way of special features either and is pretty much as bland as the film itself is. It does however feature a free digital copy of the film that you can download from Itunes – I thought that was pretty cool.
