Living large and loving life, Po (Jack Black) realizes that he has a lot to learn if he’s going to fulfill the next challenge from his beloved instructor (Dustin Hoffman). After reuniting with his long-lost father (Bryan Cranston), Po must transition from student to teacher and train a group of fun- loving, clumsy pandas to become martial-arts fighters. Together, the kung-fu brethren unite to take on the evil Kai (J.K. Simmons), a supernatural warrior who becomes stronger with each battle.

What I Thought

Po and the gang return once more for even more butt-kicking action. This time round he has to face the evil Kai who is a former friend and rival of Master Oogway. Kai has a rather awesome ability that steals people’s ‘Chi’ which forces them into slavery at his hand. He uses this same ability to escape The Spirit Realm with intention to seek out Po and add the Chi of The Dragon Warrior to his collection. Po must then hurry to not only achieve his destiny as a teacher but to master Chi itself.

I really liked this movie – it was no less fun than the previous 2 instalments which I also loved.

The story is the typical ‘believe in yourself’ routine we see in many kids movies these days and Jack Black once again hilariously delivered alongside the star studded cast which includes the likes of Jackie Chan, Angelina Jolie and Dustin Hoffman.

While entertaining it is rather predictable and if you’ve seen the previous two films you won’t really see anything new here. This being said – kids will love it.

Hans Zimmer once again steps up for the soundtrack of Kung Fu Panda 3 with many asian musicians and even a choir joining him this time round to deliver a stunning musical accompaniment to an enjoyable film. The soundtrack is the best part of this film for me and like previous instalments it features an authentic oriental tone to accompany both the onscreen action and emotional parts with distinguished and unyielding class.

Kung Fu Panda 3 is a great addition to the ever growing legend of The Dragon Warrior and if this film is anything to go by for the future of the franchise, Po should be returning in one way or another for even more shenanigans before long and we can’t wait.
