The new Ghostbusters film opened recently to a roar of disapproval from both sexist and racist idiots alike and now it seems attempting to make the Ghostbusters trailer the most disliked trailer in Youtube history wasn’t enough for them.
Shortly after the new Ghostbusters film opened, Leslie Jones who portrays Patty Tolan in the film, was singled out for the sole reason of being a person of colour by a horde of mindless haters.
Racial slurs were thrown around from thousands of users to which quite frankly she had no defense or comeback. After all what is there to do against such mindless hate? Leslie Jones was so upset she broke down crying and had to depart all social media platforms to attempt to calm herself down.
Writers Note: I will not do the haters the honours of appearing on this site and certainly won’t help promote their racist, inhumane behaviour by even displaying a single screenshot of one such tweet.
On Monday night Leslie Jones responded with the following;
“It’s so sad, most of these comments sound like they are from ignorant children,” she said. “You have to hate yourself to put out that type of hate. I mean on my worst day I can’t think of this type of hate to put out.”
“I don’t know how to feel. I’m numb. Actually numb. I see the words and pics and videos. Videos y’all. Meaning people took time to spew hate,” she continued. “I use to wonder why some celebs don’t have Twitter accounts, now I know. You can’t be nice and communicate with fans cause people are crazy.”
Luckily, director Paul Feig came to her defense and attempted to counter the hate with the hashtag #LoveForLeslieJ becoming a viral trend shortly after the whole thing started.
Even Dan Aykroyd came to her defense recently.
This set haters and non-haters and white knights at each other’s throats and even caused the CEO of Twitter himself, Jack Dorsey, to intervene.
“This type of abusive behavior is not permitted on Twitter, and we’ve taken action on many of the accounts reported to us by both Leslie and others,” said a spokesman for Twitter.
“We rely on people to report this type of behavior to us but we are continuing to invest heavily in improving our tools and enforcement systems to prevent this kind of abuse. We realize we still have a lot of work in front of us before Twitter is where it should be on how we handle these issues.”
I guess we’re not all that civilized and over stupid things like racism after all, are we? If in today’s modern times, a film, that quite frankly has nothing wrong with it at all can be singled out and blindly hated just for starring female characters in the lead and then one of those very same actresses can be singled out for being a woman and black at the same time…then what hope is there for humanity?
Do yourself and us all a favor, report the racists, report the sexists and help them understand that doing this sort of thing to another human being is not okay and we won’t stand for it.
