Horror Holiday

Halloween is the month of sexy cosplay girls, creepy candy and horror movies. While there is plenty of new movie offerings to choose from I prefer to go back to the classics. There have been a select few horror flicks that gave me countless nightmares but none have ever come close to Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street.

The movie itself encompasses a supernatural monster of a man who invades your very dreams and if he kills you in them, you really die. With a premise like that it’s no wonder it spawned a bunch of sequels. True, it evolved (devolved?) into a parody of itself. But the first, the original was pure genius.

A kid killer who was burned alive comes back to haunt his murderer’s kids in their dreams. Armed with the trademark gloves with knives, Freddy Krueger has become an icon. The ultimate boogie man, the one you can never hide from because he invades your very mind.

“Hello Beautiful”

There will be blood

With copulas pints of blood in every death and the eerie but fitting music it is the perfect throwback movie to watch this Halloween.

I remember the first time I watch it at my cousin’s place, and how after the movie he switched the lights out while I was in the bathroom singing the famous rhyme; “One, two Freddy’s coming for you…” I remember not being able to sleep for days because the man with the finger knives would come for me in my dreams.

Will it scare the pants of you? Probably not anymore, but after my iPhone’s close encounter with marble tile pretty much nothing else scares me. This is my pick of what to watch this Halloween, for both nostalgia and also for it being everything a horror movie should be.

What is that?

The movie must have a mutilated monster killer with a slightly tragic death but one that was deserved due his (or hers) evil ways. He must have a signature weapon which he will of course use to full effect ensuring maximum bloodshed and a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack or score.

“Wasssssuuuup!”

You could turn it into the perfect drinking game and line up the entire series back to back and take a shot every time Freddy says a pun filled one liner. But then again that will have you passed out by the third movie if not less.

So this Halloween lets pay tribute to the genre defining cult classic and stick a copy in your DVD/Blu Ray player and…
