The Top 5 Geeky Goods of 2016

Having being tasked with choosing the top 5 geeky gadgets seemed like a dream assignment till I looked back at the options. I found that I was faced with a huge and diverse selection and choosing the best was going to be no easy task. I decided not to keep it to collectables but rather the 5 best items that tugged on the strings of my heart. It’s like the little puppy in the window that you must have or you roll on the floor crying until its cuddled in your arms, while you sit in the car on your way home, finally content.

Remote Control BB8 with Force Band

True, this is actually 2015 item but the updated force band came in this year so I will sneak this in Millennium Falcon style. The toy is awesome for any Force Awakens fan. Taking control of the movies break out star, the force band is allows for Jedi/Sith gesture controls. It maybe somewhat limited but still buckets of fun. So while everyone opts for the droid Smartphone marriage, I would rather go to the galaxy far far way (also known as my back yard) and fool around with R2-D2’s great great grand-droid.

Batman: The Animated Series Batmobile

Batmobiles are always excellent purchases whether it is the mini hot wheels or Hot Toys large and in charge replica. This one may be plastic but it has room to place 2 action figures from the same series of action figures and it has light up lights. Yes you heard that right light up lights (because everything is better when it lights up, Note 7 excluded ) it is quite a large piece and makes a pretty fantastic display piece. Price is quite fair considering its size. They are pretty hard to find now , but a re-release is due but sadly with a higher price tag.

VR ( Virtual Reality) – add on

Yes VR (VERY REAL) is here and hopefully here to stay. While decent ones are pricey, they will totally level up your visual experience. Playstation’s version seems the best buy as it is higher end quality, and will give us some engaging gaming. (Batman here’s looking at you) but also has a vast arry of applications. No not that! But yeah that too. But I honestly meant from design perspective. More intriguing is the idea of what movie could be like. Imagine being in the crowd in New York City as Spiderman swings building to building. I am already salivating at the possibilities. But yeah VR… it makes the list.

Batman: The Animated Series Kotobukiya

This almost made the top spot for multiple reasons . It is priced right even if you missed the pre-order. It has uber nostalgic properties, like really who amongst us has never watched the cartoon. But other than being a good bang for your buck or strolling down memory lane it is a pretty awesome piece. Well crafted and with beautiful accessories. Now before this turns into a full on review. Let’s just say this, it’s a piece that is not just meant for collectors and will make a great study piece or make your boss hate you a little more sitting on your work desk.

Pokemon Go

Yes this may not be something you purchase (micro transactions not included) or an actual tangible item but it is the break out star of the year. Besides making me discover we had a park down my road, it was truly innovative. It captured the world on a massive scale. Old and young all hunting rare Pokemon and cursing Zubats. The hype may be dead but man was it fun ( until updates ruined it all ). The 2016 number 1 is still available for free.

Honourable Mentions

X Box One S/PS4 Pro, while technically released only in other countries I thought they should get a shout out. The upgraded may be a bit of a slap in the face of early adopters but there is no denying that it has snapped the attention of pure gamers.

And that folks is to me what made heart go bump bump bump in 2016. shoot of your comments below and let us know what your top 5 are.
