You know its a bad day when the Grimm Reaper welcomes you.

Mustache in Hell is a top down shooter action game with comical style graphics to add a retro feel, twin stick controls and a difficulty level that might even seem unfair. You start each stage with 5 lives and a basic pistol, when you enter a room the demons begin to spawn and you will have to think quick and collect weapons as they spawn to keep them at bay.

Enemies will try to surround you so watch your back.

The graphics really remind me of games in the 80’s they are well done and the developer did a good job, of adding just enough detail while keeping the game relatively simple. The controls can be confusing at the start but that’s the least of the problems you will face. The challenge comes from the demons that spawn and believe me it’s not just ten or so, it’s a literal stampede that will test your ability to the maximum. The game also has a tendency to spawn you in the middle of a group of enemies that will cause some frustration.

The Boss battles are particularly hairy.

Unfortunately there are some serious issues that I hope will be addressed in a patch. For starters the game play can get repetitive really fast as you will constantly try to get a new weapon when out of ammo since the starting pistol is really weak. The dialog contains some bad English, by this I don’t only mean spelling but sentences that make no sense at all when you read them. Another issue that annoyed me is you complete a level and you return to the start point, they still show you the intro dialog and that’s a bit confusing the first time around.

This is only one of a few lost in translation errors.

Another issue is the doors and the opening animations that are extremely slow, even after a door opens it still takes 2-3 seconds before you can move your character it’s just a waste of time better spent on killing stuff.

Better Shave That Mustache

The game does have a retro factor, but in a world where there are so many better games of the same type it might struggle to find appeal.The insane difficulty cure will frustrate and even put some people off from completing the game. And then there are the translation errors.
