The pixelated environment reminds you of games from the 90’s.

The name Kite is actually short for kiting used as a means to keep away from an enemy but still engaging it in battle. This is the mechanic the game is based on and it feels quite normal, you may still receive some damage from mines and the environment but as soon as you master it you will feel unstoppable. With power-ups like turbo legs and tempo (used to slow down time) encounters can be both frantic and slow.

Scientists can be found around every level make sure you rescue them all.

You also have a crafting and leveling system in the game, where you can choose what to build using the scraps found around the eight levels of the game. To build higher quality items you will have to rescue more scientists found on levels as you play. You can also craft better ranged weapons and even laser swords to help you get rid of the pesky robots.

Here you can upgrade your droid to increase your base stats.

The sound and graphics are well designed and you might be forgiven to think that you have stepped back into a time machine and entered a 90’s game arcade, playing the newest game that just released. The pixelated environment even has destructible plants and you can blow up the computers in the labs to receive data banks. As you run and gun trough the levels the soundtrack is sure to remind you of movies like Blade Runner from 1982.

Using scrap you can create new items that will boost your abilities.

Overall it’s a well-designed game that will appeal to a wide audience, it’s still in development at this stage and available as an Alpha release. It’s the flagship project of Lab Cat games a one person development studio, and from my point of view a very impressive game.

Today we take a look at Kite an RPG dungeon crawler set in a Sci-Fi world where you must stop a robot uprising using your H.O.R.D droid. Along the way you will be able to reclaim technology and use it to perform upgrades on your droid. From the start it feels like you are drawn into the past, the old school feel is what makes this such a great game. The learning curve is so easy that anyone can learn to play it in minutes.
