Though the worst kept secret within the X-Wing Miniatures community, Fantasy Flight Games have officially announced and released a new core set for their X-Wing miniatures game, set in the timeline of Star Wars: Episode 7. While similar to the original core set, both the X-Wing and the Tie-Fighters have been swapped out for their Episode 7 counterparts. The new core set also includes new obstacles, a completely new damage deck that replaces the original, and naturally a collection of new pilot and upgrade cards.

While thematically the ships in the core set are from a different timeline than the Rebellion era the game firmly takes place in, the content is fully comparable with the current game, which allows current ships to use the upgrades found in the new core set. Additionally, while these new ships technically belong to slightly different factions (New Order rather than the Galactic Empire, and the Resistance rather than the Rebellion), they are still fielded within their respective side without issue. It should also be clarified that these ships don’t replace their thematic brothers – they are new ships, and the older X-Wings and TIE-Fighters can and will still be fielded as normal.
