Hello there, I’m MG THABO, or as I’m known in the real world, Marko Swanepoel. I’m 23 years old and I’ve been writing about videogames for about 5 years now and I’ve always loved it. I previously worked at EGMR and I’ve learned a lot from my time there. You can read all of my articles here if you so desire. Gaming has been an integral part of my everyday life ever since I first touched a knock-off NES back when I was 5 years old. Ever since I fell in love with Super Mario Bros and Sonic the Hedgehog, gaming became my obsession. I searched for and played every game I could get my hands on to absolute exhaustion. Some might even claim that I’m a little too into games just from the sheer amount of hours I put into this hobby.
Even as a hardcore enthusiast, I still withhold my preferences. I primarily enjoy sprawling RPGs, with special attention given to whatever Bethesda has made. I’ve logged possibly thousands of hours into the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series of games and I say that with no shame. I love to get lost within a gaming world. Escapism is my number one motivation to play games. There’s something magical about leaving this world behind for a little while and exploring a virtual world to your heart’s content while leaving behind all of the stress and pressure of the real world.
I am a strong believer that games are art. There’s so much artistic value that can be found in games and the medium has evolved so drastically in such a short amount of time that people don’t even realise that games are more than they initially let on. It’s a brand new form of narrative that is relatively untapped. We’ve come a long way from our humble arcade beginnings where everything was marketed towards young males and consisted mainly of shooting things in space. There’s a whole new layer of complexity within games that is becoming more and more fleshed out and I’d like to document that.
I primarily like to write about the good things that encapsulate gaming. There’s so much negativity surrounding the gaming industry as a whole and while I do often comment about the myriad injustices that we have to deal with, we must not forget about the reasons we game. This site in particular is a celebration of everything that is geeky and I’d like to continue that celebration well into the future. You’ll soon notice that I adopt a more casual tone in my writing since I think that my writing is more of a conversation rather than me talking down to you. I love feedback and I would love to get to know you as a fellow geek.
Now onto what I will be doing on this wonderful website. I’ll mostly be covering and reviewing games as well as provide some larger features that have to do with games. In addition, I’ll also be reviewing television series which I also have a great interest in. I, like many other people, have watched an enormous amount of shows that range from the humble comedy to the dark drama. Parallel to gaming, TV series have evolved into something fascinating with more and more complex stories and a wider range of possible emotions that you can feel. This will be my first time reviewing TV series, but I will do my absolute best and use my knowledge as best as I can.
You will also have the privilege (or the misfortune) of hearing my terrible voice on the podcast which will be recording tonight and will be published tomorrow. Please excuse my horrible speaking voice and general quirkiness, but you’ll also be able to learn about me straight from the horse’s mouth.
This is a new chapter in my life and I’m glad I’m starting it with such an awesome website. I hope to geek out with all of you well into the future and that we can have some great discussion and become fellow geeks.

Marko has played way too many games, listened to way too many metal albums and is probably taller than you. He is a qualified language and communication practitioner and likes to write about the good things in gaming.
