It warms my heart whenever a game that had so much love poured into gain so much success. When you see a AAA game doing well, it was probably because their marketing was on point and somewhere in some boardroom there was a chart that predicted the expected sales and how much it would have sold to turn a profit. Eric Barone, the game’s only developer has definitely put all of his love and attention into his magnum opus, Stardew Valley, and the game has gained massive success just from word of mouth. For those unfamiliar with the game, it’s a game that takes inspiration from Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon while having the aesthetic of Terraria.
The game has now officially sold 1 007 000 units on Steam and it even beat out some high tier games on the top spots. It was released a mere 2 months ago and it already sold 400 000 copies in its first two weeks. All of this with good reason. The game is absolutely wonderful and so packed with content and charm that it will last you for weeks and you’ll love it for it. I’ve played the game myself and it’s incredible what one person managed to accomplish.
The game is still receiving game altering updates and there’s talks of a co-op mode being in development. I couldn’t be more happy that someone that is so deserving has reached such a lofty level of success and I hope the game just soars further from this point on.
