Video Game News: Need For Speed Taking A Break This Year

Yearly franchises are a bit problematic. They open up all kinds of negative side-effects such as franchise fatigue, people turning on the franchise and the creators not getting enough time to really flesh out a game. Assassin’s Creed has been doing yearly releases for way too long and this year they decided to give everyone a break and not release a game until next year. It seems that trend is continuing with another franchise that has been doing yearly releases for decades and that is Need for Speed.

The Need for Speed reboot in 2015 did reasonably well and wasn’t a complete disaster, but it wasn’t the Second Coming like many people wanted it to be. However, EA have announced that they’re going to put the franchise on ice this year and only release a Need for Speed game in 2017. This is the second time that they have done this, however, with 2014 also not seeing a Need for Speed game.

I think this is a positive move for them with regards to their future.I think people got a little bit burned out (heh) on the franchise quite a while back and to take a step back and really focus on a game can only be in their best interests.
