When I was little I always wanted to be He-Man or a Ninja Turtle, now Open Bionic has teamed up with Disney to create themed prosthetic hands for young amputees, so that they won’t have to do boring physiotherapy; instead they’ll be training to become heroes.
From the Marvel Universe, the hand of Iron Man;inspired by Queen Elsa from Disney’s Frozen, the Snowflake hand; and third inspired by the Jedi’s weapon on choice, the Star Wars ligthsaber hand.
Now kids can get excited about their prosthetics. They won’t have to do boring physical therapy, they’ll train to become heroes. They’re not just getting medical devices, they’re getting bionic hands inspired by their favorite characters. The Walt Disney Company is generously donating the time of its creative teams and providing royalty free licenses. More designs coming soon!” Open Bionics
Earlier this year Open Bionics won The James Dyson Award, an international design award that celebrates, encourages and inspires the next generation of design engineers for using 3d printing technology to make quick and affordable bionic hands. They also offer kits for hobbyist who are interested in robotics.
