The newest instalment of the Fire Emblem series is almost upon us. Nintendo has, in January of this year, announced the coming of Fire Emblem Echoes – Shadows of Valentia, to be released on 20 April 2017 in Japan and on 19 May 2017 for the rest of the world.
For those who are unfamiliar with the Fire Emblem franchise, Shadows of Valentia is the third instalment released for the 3DS platform, after Awakening and Fates, and the thirteenth instalment in the franchise. It is also important to note that Shadows of Valentia is a remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden, a game released in 1992 for the NES Famicom. The word “Gaiden”, directly translates into side story – meaning that there will be no continuation from Awakening or Fates and that Shadow of Valentia rather has its own story and characters. As with all the prior instalments in the Fire Emblem franchise, Shadows of Valentia is a tactical role-playing game, but just like the original Gaiden, contains elements of gameplay that sets it apart from other instalments.
Shadows of Valentia is based in the medieval time period and follows the adventures of main characters Alm and Celica as they travel the world, fighting men and monsters alike while they explore vast 3D dungeons. Gameplay mechanics for Shadows of Valentia follows the franchise closely, providing tactical simulation style battles featuring multiple characters, while also providing RPG style character and plot development.
If you’re looking for a nifty new adventure then I think this one is definitely one to look forward to.
