Video Game News: Your Free Games for December

Fresh in from Microsoft and Sony we have the free games for subscribers to the Xbox Live Games with Gold and PS Plus services respectively, and I’m in two minds about this month’s selection. Here have a look for yourself and you’ll see what I mean.

Xbox Live Games With Gold:

This month Xbox has added a 5th game to their staple and you would think that it could be seen as an early Christmas present, but the whole lineup seems a bit lacklustre.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing – Available from December 1-31 on Xbox One

Thief – Available from December 16-January 15 on Xbox One

CastleStorm – Available from December 1-15 on Xbox 360

Sacred 3 – Available from December 16-31 on Xbox 360

Bonus; Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising – Available from December 16-31 on Xbox 360

I’ve spoken to Microsoft South African to get confirmation on these titles as we have been known to sometimes have ratings issues and end up getting different games (like this month – November), but they assure me that these are the games we will be getting locally. Thief underperformed a bit and is not exactly popular, but I’m actually quite keen to check out Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Which of these are you excited for?

PlayStation Plus:

This selection looks slightly better.

King’s Quest – Chapter 1: A Knight to Remember (PS4)

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon (PS3)

SSX (PS3)

Rocketbirds Hardboiled (PS Vita)

Freedom Wars (PS Vita)

I haven’t finished Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon yet, so I’ll definitely be picking that one up. King’s Quest has been one of my favourite series of games since times immemorial, I’m yet to try out the new episodic series, so even though I don’t have a PS4 (yet), I’ll definitely be “buying” it for when I do get it. Since PS Vita games aren’t exactly plentiful, I’ll probably grab the Rocketbirds Hardboiled and Freedom Wars, although I have no idea whether they are good or not. The rest aren’t exactly well knowns to me, but I hope you guys enjoy them.
