Here’s how it works. The game is of course, 2-5 players and at the beginning of each round, players must choose different conditions to cross out using Nyet! tokens. These conditions consist of trump, super trump, the number of cards to be discarded, the last player and the value of the tricks taken on the grid. At the end of this part, there will be one space left over on the board which will leave you with the way that round will play out. Once the starting player is determined, he/she then needs to pick a partner for the round. Pick carefully as you may end up choosing someone who is not a good player and it could have a detrimental effect on your overall score. I of course, was not the best at this game so I ended up on the losing team most of the time. Them’s the pits.

You then proceed to play the game by each trying to get the highest possible value down to win the trick. Should you not have a high enough value to “trump” the opposing team’s player, try to avoid playing your 1’s as this is seen as “loot” and counts as an additional point to the opposing team. Unless of course you have the Super Trump, which is pretty much a 1 of a specific colour. In that case, you always win. Another way to win, and this only works is if you are out of the specific colour that is in play, is to play the trump colour. Got it? Great!

This time around, Boardgames SA provided us with a copy of Nyet!, an interesting take on the Trick taking genre designed by Stefan Dora and Published by Gokids. What makes Nyet! different to other trick taking games is this. Like Fluxx, this game changes as you play it, so the chances are quite low that the next round you play will be the same as the previous, thus fluctuating gameplay and keeping it interesting. It takes about 30 minutes to play and is a lot of fun if you like card games. Here's how it works. I thoroughly enjoyed playing Nyet! and I recommend it as a party favour, especially if you have friends who are into trick taking games. If you're not familiar with the type of game, it may take you a short time to catch on, but once you're into it, it's smooth sailing from there.
