Video Game News: Introducing South Africa's Xbox Playdates

So you’ve bought yourself a shiny new Xbox One and got one of the numerous newly released multiplayer gamers currently available, but you don’t have any online mates to play with. Never fear, coz that’s where Xbox Playdates comes in. Headed up by local Xbox Ambassador GlennZA, the South African Xbox Playdates aims to bring local multiplayer enthusiasts together.With games ranging from Forza Horizon 3 to Gears of War 4 (more on that later), you will be sure to find some potential mates to play with on Xbox Live. Here’s some more info from the man himself, Glenn Alexander:

Gaming communities are nothing new and have been around for years. Even back in the days before Facebook or Twitter gamers from forums used to get together to play the same game and own a friend and just generally have a jolly good time.

As the world of social has evolved and become more and more part of our daily lives, so too has the social side grown within the gaming circles.

Xbox Playdates ( https://twitter.com/XboxPlaydates ) was originally started in France with the Xbox MVP MoonieFR ( https://twitter.com/MoonieFR ) taking the initiative and founded the program.

Just recently GlennZA ( https://twitter.com/GlennZA ) kicked off the South African division for Xbox Playdates. South Africa’s very own Xbox MVP.

Since then, the Xbox Playdate program has spread to the USA ( https://twitter.com/XboxPlaydatesUS ), Canada ( https://twitter.com/XboxPlaydatesCA ), Austria ( http://facebook.com/XboxAT ), Germany ( https://twitter.com/playdates_de ), United Kingdom ( https://twitter.com/XboxPlaydatesUK ) and of course now in South Africa ( https://twitter.com/XboxPlaydatesZA ).

So what is an Xbox Playdate exactly? Well, Xbox Playdates South Africa is a community-driven program that creates a fun and engaging environment to play the best multiplayer Xbox One games with like-minded gamers. Being able to connect and play games with people who love and play the games you love.

At launch, initially, we aimed to host one playdate a week which for the time being is a Friday evening from around 20h00 with a new game which rotates each new week. The full schedule ahead of the month can be found on our Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/xboxplaydatesza ) and for November we’re hosting Playdates for the shooters: Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and ending the month off with Halo MCC.

The great news coming in November is that we’ll be partnering up with various publications who together with Xbox Playdates will host dedicated game evenings, for example, Geek Node Gears Wednesday’s where Geek Node, every Wednesday night will host Gears of War 4. What this in return means, players who love Gears of War will not need to wait 8 weeks again before we host a Gears of War 4 playdate and play with fellow community members. In the coming months, you’ll see games like Forza Horizon 3, Battlefield 1 and others also become regular weekly playdates hosted in partnership with other publications.

Geek Node Gears Wednesdays will be launching officially on Wednesday 9 November at 8pm.
