Happy Easter folks! It’s a recap filled with 90’s nostalgia this week, as I show you the latest image released from the upcoming Voltron series, update you on the Star Trek: Beyond release date and debunk the apparent Captain Britain television series rumuor the Internet couldn’t get out of it’s virtual mouth. Let’s get to it!

Captain Britian Rumour Debunked

Earlier this week, rumours spread that soon become a wildfire needed to be extinguished. Blogs and online entertainment outlets everywhere had been speculating on whether a Captain Britain series is in development to expand the Marvel Universe. Unfortunately, it seems highly unlikely that such a series will become a reality. Turns out the whole fiasco was just a producers’ pitch for a highlight reel assembled by independent producers, in hopes that Marvel will help them bring the series to television next year. Sorry Marvel fans, looks like we won’t be seeing a live action Brian Braddock anytime soon. His American counterpart however, will be on the big screen on May 6, 2016 in Captain America: Civil War .

Game of Thrones Teases Biggest Battle So Far

Out of the many fantastical highlights Game of Thrones gives us every season, one of the most exciting is their cinema worthy epic battles. Season 2’s Battle of Blackwater Bay, not only left Tyrion Lannister disfigured but solidified the Lannister family as rulers of Westeros. Last season, witnessing the Nightwatch fighting off a horde of Whitewalkers that slowly gained ground was… chilling, to say the least. Co-showrunner, Dan Weiss and writer-producer Bryan Cogman, told popular entertainment website EW, that viewers who enjoy the big battles will be mightily impressed with the biggest battle the show has ever seen. “It’s definitely the biggest [action sequence yet],” Thrones writer-producer Bryan Cogman told EW. “We’ve always wanted to get to a place – story-wise and budget-wise and time-wise and resource-wise – where we would be able to do a proper battle, with one army on one side, one army on another side.”

Shooting the scenes was a logistical nightmare, so don’t expect every season to be filled with such blockbuster choreography. HBO’s Thrones, tries to keep computer effects to a minimum using as many real actors on location as possible. “We wondered, ‘Why don’t you see more fully fleshed-out battles in movies and TV?’” said Weiss. “Then you get into the nitty-gritty of what it takes to actually shoot these things in a way that isn’t just helter-skelter chaos but actually gives you a sense of battle geography and the ebb and flow, and you realize why.” I can safely say the cast can now breathe a little easier knowing that there are Emmy’s lined up for them just waiting to be won, with the show having snagged 26 Emmy wins. Game of Thrones returns on April 24th.

Hannibal Blames Piracy for Cancellation.

Television aficionado’s were disappointed by the unexpected cancellation of Hannibal. A really good show based on the chilling 90s’ cult film franchise of the same name. Many people couldn’t understand how such a popular show could have low ratings, leading to its cancellation. Well executive producer Martha De Laurentiis seemed to have a pretty good reason why. Earlier this week, De Laurentiis wrote an op-ed piece for TheHill, stating that it was piracy that doomed the short lived show. Pointing to stats which revealed that Hannibal was the third most illegally downloaded show of 2013. “When nearly one-third of the audience for Hannibal is coming from pirated sites—despite the fact that a legitimate download for each episode was available the following day—you don’t have to know calculus to do the math. If a show is stolen, it makes it difficult, if not impossible, to fairly compensate a crew and keep a series in production.” Arguments against why this isn’t true state that the content matter dealt with in the show itself wasn’t suitable for network television.

Delay for new Start Trek tv series

Trekkies and Trekkers looking forward to the latest film, Star Trek Beyond will have to wait slightly longer than expected. While Star Trek: Beyond will still release this year for the shows 50 th anniversary, the release date has been pushed from July 8, 2016 to July 22 nd .

Star Trek Beyond is being based on a script by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, and while plot details are thin, it has been confirmed that the movie will see the Enterprise crew head out on their famous five-year mission exploring strange new worlds and seeking out new life and new civilizations (you know, “going where no man has gone before” kinda stuff). The principal cast, including Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, John Cho and Karl Urban, are all set to reprise their respective roles, while Idris Elba is set to play the mysterious new villain.

Lead actor for The Tick reboot cast

Cult classic, The Tick has been set to return on streaming service Amazon. Once an animated series where it found mainstream popularity, it became a short lived action TV series in 2001. An absurdist spoof of superheroes, this burly blue man is often caught in hilarious hi-jinks, with memorable characters. Gaurdians of the Galaxy’s Peter Serafinowicz will play the titular antennae spouting superhero. Serafinowicz is notably known for his role as Peter in Shaun of the Dead he also voiced Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode 1—The Phantom Menace. The pilot episode is to be directed by Wally Pfister, the cinematographer behind blockbuster Inception and The Dark Knight. Surrounded by the golden age of superhero television shows, The Tick will thrive in an environment where everyone takes themselves so seriously.

First Look at Netflix’s Voltron

An animation show that I can say I truly missed is Voltron: Defenders of the Universe. It was at a time when I was obsessed with any Megazord battle present in every Mighty Morphin Power Rangers episode. Five mechanical lions making one big humanoid battle robot is a concept that would still appeal to young audiences of this generation. Originally aired in syndication from September 1984 to November 1985, spawning follow up series and an endless parade of merchandise. An animated prequel Voltron Force , aired in 2011-1012 on Nicktoons. The new series will centre on five Earth teens – Keith, Lance, Hunk, Pidge and Shiro – who became the last line of defense for Arus and other planets in an intergalactic battle against the evil force led by King Zarkon.
