Greetings everybody. Yesterday I gave the lay of the land on how to prepare for rAge 2016.

Today, however we talk competitions and giveaways since the only thing that could make rAge better, is leaving with more than you came with! (especially if those things WON’T stay in the bag for a year).

First up we have the competitions themselves, unfortunately there aren’t any prizes for showing up (ie. They aren’t something you can just enter, not at this point anyway, HOWEVER they may still give away swag at these times):

  • The Entelect Challenge finals
  • This is an annual event where participants create AI (Artificial Intelligence) programs and make them fight to the death! (And we wonder why society is afraid of the Singularity )
  • This year, the battleground in question is Bomberman with two bots fighting for supremacy and survival.
  • A prize pool of R200,000 is up for grabs.
  • It will take place on the stage from 10-11 AM on Saturday.
  • The sixth annual rAge Cosplay Competition
  • This is exactly what it sounds like and is the largest of it’s kind in Southern Africa!
  • Contestants show-it-all-off for the chance to win goodies and other prizes.
  • This will take place on the stage from 2-4 PM on Sunday.
  • The Call of Duty MAG Cup Celebrity Challenge
  • Now here’s a weird one, starting from Friday at 1:30 PM we shall see two celebrity teams face off in battle!
  • Team Red will feature:
  • Musician, Jack Parow.
  • Comedian, Jason Goliath.
  • Rugby Player, Rohan Janse van Rensberg.
  • And red team captain from Energy eSports, Ismail “Jakez” Jacobs.
  • Team Blue will feature:
  • Journalist, Pippa Tshabalala.
  • Musician, AKA.
  • Comedian, Deep Fried Man
  • And blue team captain from Insane Gaming, Kaelin “Tanker” Govender.
  • Keep an eye on this one folks, seems like a real jol.

Next we move to the giveaways:

  • Matrix Warehouse Computers
  • Matrix will be running three competitions all weekend at their stand one of which is a R50,000 ultimate gaming PC!
  • Blue Ocean Vr
  • Blue Ocean will be hosting an Ar (Augmented reality) treasure hunt at their stand with awesome prizes up for grabs!

And that folks is all she wrote! There will be smaller giveaways running all weekend at their respective stands that give away swag and some really cool prizes, you just have to keep your eyes (and ears, you’ll hear them happening) open. It’s always a good idea to ask the larger stands at what times they’re planning on doing the giveaways to get there 10 minutes before (the guy in front ALWAYS gets something).

We will be keeping this article updated and will make changes as soon as we hear from more stallholders about what their plans are.

P.S. Just for safety and comfortablility sake please keep hydrated and be mindful about going on Saturday in the middle of the day, by then the expo is incredibly full and you may not get in.
