Tech Review: Sennheiser Game One Headset

The quest for perfection

With the Rand firming up last month and some ridiculous Amazon sales I managed to pick up a Sennheiser Game One headset for R2400 (shipping and tax included).

The Sennheiser Game One Stereo headset (works with any gaming device that can take a 3.5mm jack) is Sennheisers answer to the stereo end of the gaming audio market. It comes with a built-in mic that auto-mutes when you move it upwards and a volume adjustment wheel. It ships with two cable connectors for either PC mic and audio, or plain stereo and mic combo for consoles/Mac.

Fit and comfort: Incredibly comfortable and light. Honestly you will forget you have these on most of the time. The ear cups are nice and large, the set adjusts to fit your head perfectly. These can be worn for days on end with no discomfort.

Sound: Crisp, clear and nearly perfect audio. It could do with more bass on the lower end to really make those explosions come alive, but you will hear details in games that you will otherwise miss out on. For movies and music, these are fantastic especially if your tastes lean towards the acoustic.

Build quality and look: I bought the white set, since it was nearly R1500 cheaper than the black set ( I have no idea why). The quality is solid, but I wont be throwing these around the house since they are far finer in detail than some of the other headsets I own. The look is geared towards gamers so if you wanted something minimalist then these are not for you.

Are these the best headset money can buy? For the price, the fit and the sound…very close. The next step up from these would have to be 5.1 or 7.1 with a dedicated control amps and those will set you back a fair bit more.
