Reviewing a remastered edition of a game that has been out for years comes with a certain amount of bumps. It isn’t like the story can get expanded greatly, possibly the remaster will contain all prior DLC but that is about as far as that can go. The only real changes we can consider is look, sound and feel of a game.
As a studio it is great to see THQ rewarding it’s fans by giving them a copy of the Warmastered if you owned the orginal on steam. They do their best to provide the best gaming experience.
Look
You will definitely see the upgraded textures of the game, they upped the game to full HD. On PC it gets up to 1080p/60, it is meant to achieve the same on consoles but on my base PS4 it only managed 1080p/30. I got to experience the game on both PC and PS4 and I am starting to see an issue that us gamers are going to start facing, especially if we aren’t willing or able to upgrade to the latest and greatest version of the respective consoles. PC ran like a dream, both in gameplay and cinematics it performs well and looks great. On PS4 that is a different story, on expansive levels and within cinematics I started experiencing game lag. Gameplay wise that revealed itself as sloppy input acceptance and sometimes even unresponsive controls. In cinematics I started seeing delayed visuals compared to audio which got progressively worse during longer cinematics. I personally haven’t heard of any issues on the box version so I would prefer not commenting on that.
Feel/Mechanics of the game
Personally Darksiders felt great the first time round and the Warmaster definitely does not disappoint. The gradual progression of skills and useful items give a very metroidvenia feel to the game which is a time tested way of ramping up needed skill to gain access to higher levels of play. I would recommend playing this with a controller if you are hitting it up on PC though, the keyboard and mouse controls felt sluggish but that isn’t new for this style of game. Although they tweaked the visuals of the game I cannot see any improvements on prior bugs to the game, there are still a few locations where you can fall through the map and fall to your death and even one boss level that simply refused to begin for me. (Abyssal Gladiator I’m looking at you) After a reload the fight continued the way it was meant to but seeing these sorts of bugs make it into the released version years after the original release makes me a little sad.
Overall Darksiders Warmastered is definitely worth the time if you are a fan of the original, the game isn’t over priced for a re-released game especially after the work the studio has put into it. If you haven’t touched a Darksiders game but are a fan of the genre then it is a must buy.

The problem with remasters we might start facing is the hardware we run it on, not the quality of the remaster, this one is aces.
