As you hopefully know by now, Hearthstone is getting quite a few major changes this week. With a new expansion and various other changes that look to liven up the spell slinging madness of the game. While not everyone is all that happy with what’s going to be changed this week, there’s still some pretty neat things happening so let’s check out what we can expect.

Whispers of the Old Gods

It’s finally happening, we’ll finally be getting the new expansion we’ve been waiting so long for. Even though we already knew about the release date this week , it’s tough to not get a little more excited as the date slowly edges closer. What’s also a pretty welcoming thought is that, for the first week, players will be able to earn 13 free Whispers of the Old Gods packs by playing the game.

If you’re interested to see what the latest expansion is bringing to the table, check out all of the cards here .

Formats!

With the release of Whispers of the Old Gods, Hearthstone will finally receive the formats we’ve been waiting for for what seems like forever. Standard and Wild will now be introduced to help spice up Hearthstone play that has become quite difficult to get into as a new player, but now that formats limit the pool of playable cards, it’s going to be quite a bit easier for new players to pick up Hearthstone and start getting competitive.

The Nerf Hammmer

So this is what has upset quite a few Hearthstone players. Sometimes you have to take a little bad with the good and so, while we’re getting some cool new cards to play with, we’re going to need to balance a couple of others to keep things a little fair. In order to do so Blizzard has raised their nerf hammer on the following cards:

- Ancient of Lore – Now draws 1 card instead of 2

- Force of Nature – Mana cost decreased from 6 to 5, Treants no longer have Charge and no longer die at the end of the turn

- Keeper of the Grove – Health reduced from 4 to 2

- Ironbeak Owl – Mana cost increased from 2 to 3

- Big Game Hunter – Mana cost increased from 3 to 5

- Hunter’s Mark – Mana cost increased from 0 to 1

- Blade Flurry – Mana cost increased from 2 to 4 and only affects Minions

- Knife Juggler – Attack reduced from 3 to 2

- Leper Gnome – Attack reduced from 2 to 1

- Arcane Golem – Health increased from 2 to 4, no longer has Charge

- Molten Giant – Mana cost increased from 20 to 25

- Master of Disguise – Stealth granted by this card now only lasts until the start of the next turn

Now it may be a little upsetting that your favourite card has been nerfed, but for the most part these cards saw it coming. These nerfs have been well justified by Blizzard and are going to make for some interesting changes to the how the game is played.

The BM Meta Is Changing

This is one of the weirder changes that are coming to Hearthstone, we’ll be losing the “Sorry” emote. The apology emote that was mostly used to annoy your opponent is being replace by a new “Wow” emote . While this does seem quite strange, it does present some wonderfulnew opportunities of BM in Hearthstone.

Along with a couple of quality of life updates, these are the changes we’ll be seeing to Hearthstone this week. I for one can’t wait to see how the game changes and what new identities each class will take on with the release of the new cards and what effect the Old Gods will have on the game.

The best person to offer the worst opinion. Paul's interests include adding 100 hour JRPGs to his backlog and dark walks through dungeons. You'll probably find him rambling on about old man Nintendo or that crazy newfangled eSports thingy.
