Between BVS: Dawn of Justice last year and Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman doing its circuit run at the moment (and to forget David Ayer’s polarising Suicide Squad), DC properties have come to the fore in the collector circles.

That’s not to suggest that they were ever a second shelf product offering class, all I mean is that there definitely seems to be more attention to merchandise for these characters.

Which brings me to today’s product reviews. On my last visit to Shane and Karryn at Cosmic Comics, I was able to have a look at the Icon Heroes DC Trinity statues.

Now while these products are sold separately I have opted to review them as a set. This is because we all know that the completions in you will not let you buy just one.

As always in the case of statues, we will consider our two cardinal A’s ie Aesthetics and Aish-Factor…

AESTHETICS

Okay so a little history here. Icon Heroes is a US based company who have since 1999, offered innovative licensed pop culture office products. Their offerings include environment statues and toy collectibles.

In addition to novelty items like collectible letter openers, bookends, card holders they also manufacture various scaled statues.

With product licenses including DC Comics, Once Upon a Time, and Star Trek. Heroes Icons offers an impressive range of figures and collectibles for members of all these fandoms.

I will now consider each of the products in this line in turn.

BATMAN

Based off the new 52 design of the character (at least as far as I can tell), this polystone figure at roughly 7.7” (ie circa 20 cm) which makes it a nice sized figure that will fit in pretty well with your other display pieces.

The Dark Knight is profiled in a combat ready pose with his cape flaring out behind him. I liked that the cape doesn’t billow out too far from the figure itself as past experience has shown me that that design choice eats up too much space in a display and renders cape susceptible to breakage.

The paint work is de theft and neat with no noticeable incidents of slop and running which is nice. I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t any dry brush shading which I believe would have really made the figure pop.

I found that the design style is distinctly comic-esque (i.e. it is clear that this is based on an artist’s impression of the character) and while I confess that I am not especially fond of this face sculpt – the snarl is befitting of the Dark Knight.

The figure itself has quite a heft it and is a numbered piece of a run of only 1000 pieces worldwide.

SUPERMAN

Admittedly my least favourite of the three (and that’s because of my personal preferences in relation to the characters #teambatmanya’ll).

Still, this is an impressive piece, and but for my Bat-bias, is probably a better piece of art than the Batman.

Based on a more classic look for the character (red trunks and all) the statue showcases the Man of Steel poised for action and probably ready to take flight.

This polystone figure stands at roughly 7.8” (ie circa 21 cm). As with the Batman, it ought to fit in nicely with your other display pieces.

It seems that Icon Heroes has their cape-design down to a science! The cape here also doesn’t billow out too far from the figure itself. I liked that it has many folds which simulate it billowing in the wind.

Which brings us to what I though is the most impressive feature of this statue – the dry brushing.

I loved the shading details across the figure and on the cape. The masterful paint work adds a phenomenal level of realism to the piece.

Once again I found that the design style is distinctly comic-esque as can be seen in the proportions of the character.

As with the Batman, while I am not fond of this face sculpt for Superman it is still a great rendition. This is evidenced by the presence of the chiseled jaw, windswept hair and of course the S-curl.

This is also quite a heavy figure for its size and is a numbered piece of a run of 1000 pieces worldwide.

WONDER WOMAN

This piece is undoubtedly my favorite piece in this set! Boasting a comic book inspired look, this version of the Amazon warrior princess exudes all the power and poise you would expect from the character.

This polystone figure stands at roughly 7.8” (ie circa 18 cm). She is a welcome addition to any display cabinet.

This statue is sculpted in what I am now convinced must be Icon Heroes’ distinctly comic-esque style. Wonder

Woman has a distinctly powerful sculpt with very detailed musculature across the figure.

It is difficult to see in the photos, but there is some subtle shading across the figure which adds a sense of realism to it.

I am convinced that of the three figures, this figure boasts the best and most realistic paint work.

As with the others, this statue is also part of a limited run of 1000 figures.

AISH! – Factor

As highlighted above, these are impressive figures.

On a personal note, I was not 100% thrilled with the face designs of the Batman and Superman. That being said, its a personal preference and I can’t find fault with the statues themselves.

The statues are part of a numbered run and these first edition statues are bound to gain value as time goes by.

Being a group review, I will be balancing my scoring on these figures.

Considering that these are numbered, limited numbered run figures made of polystone at a comparatively low price, this elicits a resounding “AAIISSHH!!!”.
