Let’s talk about VR a bit, from basic setups to the more expensive Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and the one that I can’t wait for the Playstation VR headset.

Virtual reality has over the last year grown up quite a bit, in my opinion it’s not just a gimmick to sell more games but rather the next evolution of gaming. The top names in the VR game at the moment are the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive but one drawback of these systems however great they are is the fact that you need a rather hefty computer to use them. More companies are moving into VR and with recent news of Microsoft announcing a VR partnership with Valve you know it’s here to stay.

You don’t need the PS Move controllers but they are recommended.

The one headset that I think will dominate the market is the PSVR being the lowest priced between the current headsets makes it the obvious choice for anyone that wants to get some VR goodness especially if you already own a PS4. With Sony already standing on 40 million PS4 units sold it has a definite advantage as all you need to do is plug in the headset and the PS4 Camera, it’s that simple.

You will need a PS Camera to use the headset.

The PSVR features an OELED display with a resolution of 960×1080 per eye and a refresh rate of 120Hz, the latency is 18ms and you have a 100 degree field of view. There is a full bundle version that includes the Headset, PS4 Camera, VR Processor unit, two PS Move controllers, HDMI cable, AC adapter and stereo ear buds and a standard version everything mentioned above minus the Move controllers and camera.

What you get in the box with the standard version.

An interesting feature of the PSVR is the ability to mirror your game play on your television for everyone to see and some games even feature a mode where you can have a friend join as a second player with a complete different view of the action. Thanks to the external processor unit.

External processor unit allows screen mirroring or separate audio or video signals to be sent to the television.

Currently there are 80 games listed for the PSVR and they include some big titles like Batman: Arkham VR, Driveclub VR, EVE: Valkyrie, Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-wing VR Mission and Resident Evil 7.

Your friends can join in the fun.

I can’t wait to get my hands on a PSVR.

If for some obscure reason have not heard about VR or want to experience it without breaking the bank, have a look at the Google Cardboard and a little program called Trinus VR that turns your phone into a VR headset for your PC.

I'm 35 obsessed with anything gaming and technology related. Staying in a quiet town does have its drawbacks as we don't have the fastest internet, but that wont stop me from enjoying my passion for gaming. Just a quick shout out to my lovely wife who supports my dreams and my friends and all the crazy moments we have encountered in games.
