Hey everyone welcome to this week’s let’s play session, I decided to do an old favorite of mine namely Styx: Master of Shadows from developer Cyanide Studios. The game itself serves as a prequel and the second game takes place in the world of 2012’s Of Orcs and Men. The next game in the series Styx: Shards of Darkness is releasing later this month.

I came across it simply by chance as it was a game offered in a bundle for PlayStation Plus subscribers. One weekend I decided to download it and see what it’s all about, and from the very start, the game kept me on the edge of my seat. You might think that keeping to the shadows is easy but let me tell you, there are times you don’t have the choice but have to transverse a lit room.

The Tower of Akenash is an impressive structure.

You play as Styx a goblin who infiltrates the Tower of Akenash, the tower itself is a flying fortress held there by the power of the world tree. You desire to reach the heart and to rescue a friend that has been imprisoned there, because of the amber you constantly hear the voices of elves in your head this confuses your memories even more. The game ends with a surprising twist that will shock most players.

The level design also allows you to either take the low road creeping through holes in the wall always decorated by blue mushrooms, or the high road where you can climb to the rafters and reign down death to your enemies. I have on more than one occasion shouted “death from above” as I leap down onto an unsuspecting victim. A mistake I made more than once was to overshoot my jumps and this more than often resulted in my quick demise. A simple piece of advice I can offer, is to always aim for the carpet.

The World Tree is your objective.

That’s all for this week, if you played the game let us know what you thought about it and if you are excited over the sequel and of course your thoughts of myLet’s Play.

The Tower of Akenash is an impressive structure.

Keeping to the rafters can help you plan some death from above moments.

The World Tree is your objective.

Hiding under tables is a great way not to be seen as long as you don’t move.

The combat system can get a bit repetitive as it relies heavily on timing.

Death comes fast but the game is classed as a hardcore stealth game.

I'm 35 obsessed with anything gaming and technology related. Staying in a quiet town does have its drawbacks as we don't have the fastest internet, but that wont stop me from enjoying my passion for gaming. Just a quick shout out to my lovely wife who supports my dreams and my friends and all the crazy moments we have encountered in games.
