It’s peculiar when you’re running around the madness of the main floor of the rAge Expo and marvel at a few of the odd exhibits on display. Most stands are usually from a gaming and technological standpoint. This year, I even saw a bizarre stand advertising a new hair dye/ hairspray product ( so you can look more like Grant Hinds I presume?). But more intriguing was a little tiny set up by a publishing company named Sera Blue.

A bunch of publishers that were pushing the launch of a new book by a young South African writer, from Johannesburg. The stand, although it was not picking up that much attention as a VR gaming headset, still piqued the interest of many passers-by, including mine.

The writer, Abi Godsell, was launching a collection of speculative fiction short stories in a book titled Relative Scale. Abi has been receiving a few positive reviews for her literary work already in the run up to this launch. Armed with a glowing blog and her previous novel, Idea War: Volume 1 (a sci-fi must read) under her belt, Abi came to rAge to let us in on her new world of magic.

But, I wondered why on earth would a video gaming expo be the perfect setting to release your latest piece of work? I had to investigate further, of course, with camera in hand again, as one does when they’re at the Khanival. Check out the first-hand perspective I received from Abi in the video above, as she explains what the book is all about, why she chose rAge as the stage to release the book and much more.
