PS Plus has had a bit of a rocky time recently with not a lot of worthwhile free games to make you excited about having the subscription. While there is usually a standout game each month, the rest of the games are a bit negligible. This has caused that customer loyalty has dwindled a bit and every month you see a slew of comments expressing their disappointment at the new line-up of free games.

On the other end of the pond, Xbox has been killing it with their consistently worthwhile Games with Gold which is especially strong next month. So has Playstation stepped up to the plate? Well… somewhat.

The games on PS4 for March are especially strong with the widely beloved Broforce and Galak-Z making an appearance. Broforce being the incredibly fun and cheesy side-scrolling shooter from Free Lives which is based in our very own South Africa. The game was a smashing success on PC and it made its way to PlayStation’s Vote to Play lineup where it competed with three other games for player votes. It ultimately won by a landslide and for good reason. It does allow you to unleash your inner BRO after all. Galak-Z is a critically acclaimed 2D space shooter that is loved by many.

In any case, here is the full list.

- Broforce (PS4)

- Galak-Z (PS4)

- Super Stardust HD (PS3)

- The Last Guy (PS3)

- Flame Over (PS Vita)

- Reality Fighters (PS Vita)

While the PS4 line-up is in fact strong, as I’ve established, the rest of the games are nothing to get excited about, even if there are some good titles in there. The community also agrees if you look at the comments on the official blog post and the dislike ratio on the announcement video. People aren’t too impressed and for good reason.

You will notice that there is a severe lack of AAA retail games, which was what made the service so popular to begin with. All of these are either indies or smaller productions. I’m inclined to agree with the majority since there was really an opportunity to bring some exclusive retail releases on the service, but they instead opted for a more toned down approach.

So a relatively weak showing from Sony compared to Xbox and they will have to do some work to redeem themselves, even if the games here are pretty good to begin with.
