As part of our friendship with 925 | Rebellion we’ll be bringing you some cross-content promotions, such as this one from time to time in order for us to expose our various readers to some more content that may have otherwise been missed.

This article, written by 925 | Rebellion’s Editor-In-Chief, His Divine Shadow , takes a look at 5 bits of advice for players of Bethesda’s newest entry, Fallout 4. It’s slightly different to the article Mr. Morris did a short while back and as I always say, more advice is better when it comes to vidya games. So have a read below, and let us know in the comments if you found any of this useful, and feel free to include your own tips. Enjoy! – NiteFenix

So I’ve been running around the Commonwealth wasteland for several weeks now. I’ve seen all sorts of towns and settlements. I’ve met lots of interesting characters. I’ve completed a plethora of interesting quests. I’ve slaughtered the population of a small country. (They had it coming.) I’ve collected all sorts of scraps, piles of junk, tons of weapons, complete sets of armour and all sorts of other bric-a-brac. Yet after all this, I am still no where near completion; and I am often outmatched by my enemies and the world around me.

Now because of all this insanity I’ve decided to give some advice for you first time Fallout players.

A friendly Deathclaw

TIP 1: Do not go south-west.

The south-western section of the map is nasty to say the least. It is a barren and radioactive land that covers a good size of the map. It is packed with all sorts of nasties, most of whom are high level and legendary in aggression. The radiation sinks in through any armour you’re wearing. Hell, I went through over 100 Rad-X and Radaway during my first sojourn into this blasted land.

TIP 2: Stockpile.

So much stuff

Fallout 4 is packed to the brim with a variety of items. You’ll often find yourself heading back to the same location several times over in order to dig through boxes, crates, and cupboards in an attempt to get a few more caps and a couple more rounds of ammo. However, most of these locations are full of junk as well. Phones, pens, tins, you name it. The world is littered in junk.

My advice. Collect it all. You can turn junk into resources. So save every bit you can.

We all need better armour

TIP 3: Sunday best.

Power Armour is the best form of defence you can get in the Fallout Franchise. But in Fallout 4 your armour is upgradeable, repairable, and requires fusion cores to work. The latter can be problematic as fusion cores are a little scares on the ground. Because of this lack of cores, I tend to run around in my daily armour (Silver Shroud ‘s suit) and save the Power Armour for dangerous sounding quests, and exploration into difficult locations.

We built this city

TIP 4: Get your Sims on.

One of the best parts of Fallout 4 is the ability to build unique and interesting towns, weapons, mods and armours. Now some of you may think building towns and such is a waste of time, but hear me out; each item you build gives you XP. So even if you build a mess for a town, you get XP for that mess. God knows I’ve gained 20 levels from building alone.

Take advantage of the landscape as best you can. I’ve found that enemies in Fallout 4 are among the nastiest buggers I’ve ever dealt with. Often I’ve found myself outnumbered, out matched and out of ammo. So I’ve taken to sniping from hills. Hiding behind trees. Dropping landmines as I run away. Throwing grenades at bottlenecks. Anything I can do to get the advantage over my foes. Hell, I hid in a bus and took on two Deathclaws with a pistol. Granted they buggered off before they died, but I survived with minimal injuries.

Get high

TIP 5: Run to the hills.
