Do you have what it takes to be the King of Iron Fist?

Well honestly speaking, no. I get RSI by button rattling, so actually winning a competition based on physical and mental strength and acuity, is regrettably not within my forte.

Still, for most of us, the ability to experience complete immersion in the worlds of our beloved games, anime, cartoons, RPG’s etc is the best we can do to feel like we belong.

In the case of Tekken, everyone knows how it goes. You complete the game, unlock the hidden levels and quests and are left whimpering since there’s not much else left to do afterwards. I found myself caught in this rut until I found the Anna Williams Bishoujo statue by Kotobukiya.

This is slightly older piece released in 2015 in commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the franchise. Notwithstanding the above, it is still an amazing statue that I feel obliged to review for those who are or might contemplate purchasing one.

Another of master sculptor Shunya Yamashita’s works this figure is a true testament to his prowess in translating these characters into reality. Even if you don’t know who this guy is, you got to respect him as his skills speak for themselves.

With that out of the way, let’s get right into the review.

Packaging – a case of Schrödinger’s Figure?

A sigh of relief for the seasoned purveyor of statues, as the statue comes encapsulated in a sturdy, plastic, figure specific moulded bubble shell within a windowed cardboard box.

While most folks dispose of the packaging, all of us have experienced the heart wrenching moment where a figure arrives broken from transit. Not an issue in this case as the packaging will be able to take quite a bit of punishment with no damage to the figure itself.

In addition, the packaging is a well decorated window box. AS a result those “in-box” collectors out there will be able to see the figure even though it will remain in the packaging.

Paintwork – Van Gogh vs Hell No

Being a mass produced figure, one may have concerns that the figure would have some paint flaws here or there. This is par for the course and I can live with that.”

Upon close inspection of the paintwork, paying particular attention to points at which two colours meet on clothing, where skin meets clothing etc but most importantly in a Bishoujo, the face, revealed no visible flaws.

It is evident that exceptional care was taken in ensuring that there is no overspray, no smudging nor coagulation of paint on the statue. Even the skin tone of the modelling medium is consistent throughout the body, wherever visible.

Furthermore the paint detailing on the face is in a league of its own. Her eyes actually have the pupils and striations painted on and both eyes are focused in the same direction.

Fun fact: Cheap knockoffs = one eye facing you and one eye facing home sweet home, China.

Attention to Detail (ATD) – Is Koto Steve Harveying through?

So here we have the legendary Anna clad in Shunya’s rendition of her classic red and gold oriental styled dress, thigh high stockings and matching high heels. ATD is obviously what we as collectors look for and that’s what you get here.

The dress portion has a beading along the outline (shades in pink) that would just be passed off as the red on her dress. The inclusion of the beading on the dress, much like real world dresses, had me questioning my vision.

I was blown away by the fact that her thigh high stockings, are made of actual movable organza and it isn’t moulded as part of the statue. Given the price point of the statue I was most impressed by the use of mixed mediums.

The detailing and inclusion of things like proportion of facial parts, her pink nail polish, life-like eyebrows and eyelashes, hair and hairstyle, pleats on the dress based on the curvature of her body and lipstick have all been executed meticulously and Tekken accurate, through the immense amount of time spent on the modelling and paintwork. Truly a work of art.

Pose – Marilyn Monroe vs Marilyn Manson

The pose chosen for Anna also proves to be accurate to her personality and style. We all know she loves to flaunt her voluptuous assets in tight revealing clothing in order to be seductive and complete her mission. I must say that the pose paired with the exceptional ATD and Paintwork, makes me feel as though every time I look at her, that she’s giving me a “come-hither-so-I-can-kill-you” look which is exactly what you want out of this statue. Accuracy. Definitely on the level of Marilyn Monroe and not Manson. Our vision is safe.

ACCTRA’s – Accessories and Extra’s

Anna comes with a pretty sturdy circular transparent plastic base which her high heels slot into. It fits in pretty snug and tight and stays firmly erect (that’s what she said). The base also includes 3 interchangeable base discs: 1 x Tekken 20th Anniversary Logo disc, 1 x Tekken Project Logo and 1 x Anna Bishoujo artwork disc (see gallery below).

This is refreshing as it is nice to be able to switch things up every so often and avoid being mundane.

Cast a line or Cast off?

With the economy doing what it’s doing and with all the new merchandise coming out its always risky forking out money on an older release.

Overall, this Anna figure has an immense “WOW” factor as it is just manufactured so accurately and perfectly. She is unequivocally a beautiful and flawless statue from the Paint, right down to Pose. The ATD is exceptional and build quality is above par.

To any Tekken fanatic/enthusiast, or even Bishoujo collectors, I can without a shadow of a doubt tell you that this statue will mesmerise and give you a sense of fulfilment, every time you look at it. Money well spent. I bestow upon this figure, the ultimate, and extremely rare, seal of approval… The Hrithik Roshan 3 Thumbs Up!

With this stunning lady on your display shelf (or at your side- I don’t judge), you’ll definitely feel like the King of Iron Fist.
