With today being Star Wars Day, we thought we’d treat you guys to a review of not one, but two formats of Lucasfilm’s latest outing into the world of Star Wars.

Rogue One: A Star Wars story brought a unique perspective to audiences in December of 2016 in the form of a prequel to 1979’s hit sci-fi film, Star Wars, which started it all. Our good friend, Jupiter from Milled , blessed us with his opinion on this film and we couldn’t agree more. The film was simply fantastic.

But let’s take a look at this recently released DVD and Blu-Ray and see what value each of them would bring to your home.

DVD

Thanks to Disney Africa, we managed to get our hands on a DVD for Rogue One and as can be expected, the film was translated beautifully to the small screen. Unfortunately though, and I suspect this might be due to limitations of the space available on a DVD disc, there are no special features to speak of. Still, if you are just interested in the film itself, we would still recommend picking up the DVD.

Blu-Ray

Khanival picked up a copy of Rogue One on Blu-Ray and what follows is his take on the content of the high definition disc.

The Rogue One Blu-Ray is cool in that it consists of two discs, one for the movie and one dedicated solely to special features. There’s quite an array of featurettes on the disc under a menu called The Stories, which capture the conceptualisation, design and intricacies of the film. Each main character in Rogue One is also fleshed out in bite-sized videos, with lots of never before seen footage and beautiful set images. There’s one more featurette which is a short piece that tells you about a few of the references in the film that link back to the older Star Wars films, TV series and some hidden Easter eggs.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t even cover half of what you know if you’re a Star Wars fan that you might have picked up on in this film. Sadly, that’s all it offers and for a huge franchise such as Star Wars, I really did expect a lot more, including director’s commentary and the deleted scenes which we heard about so much when the film landed. It’s worth adding to your collection anyway, since you are getting a bunch of cool, never before seen features, but it won’t stack up against other gems you might have in the Star Wars catalogue.

So there you have it Nodians, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on Blu-Ray and DVD. Choose your alignment…light or dark. And May the Force Be With you.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is one of the best outings out of Lucasfilm since the original trilogy. Content is lacking on the DVD but the Blu-Ray is jam packed with extras for the would-be collectors amongst you.

And with that last bit of Star Wars goodness, we would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you guys for following our Star Wars Day festivities. It’s been a pleasure producing all this content for you this May the 4th. From myself and the team, we hope you guys have an awesome Star Wars Day further. In closing I’d like to quote a certain Sith Lord and say:
