Enter the final chapter of the Resident Evil movie franchise, which I finally got the opportunity to watch and whereas the return visit to the blast pit that is now Raccoon City was quite refreshing (hello Ponte!), but ultimately it failed to impress pfangirl as you will see in her review of the film.

But we’re not here today to review the film. Instead, we’re taking a look at what comes on the DVD and if it’s worth purchasing. Let’s take a bite out of it, shall we?

Resident Evil as a movie franchise has always been a very “against the grain” kind of experience. It hasn’t always been good, and as pfangirl explains in her review, it definitely does not deliver the goods in the last entry in the series. What can, however, be said for the DVD is that it delivers on some pretty decent extra content in the form of a retrospective of the female-centric world and how the series has uplifted these heroines. We also take a good hard look at how the iconic Hive was put together in the latest film, with the focus on the recreation of classic sets, as well as the introduction of new, never-before-seen areas which were quite impressive.

If you’re looking for a fun, non-thinky popcorn flick, give Resident Evil: The Final Chapter a watch, but don’t go in expecting a mind-blowingly awesome experience. The DVD and even the Blu-Ray are nothing to write home about but does provide some interesting insight into the world of the Resident Evil movie franchise as a whole. If there was one thing I’d have liked to see more of in the making of scenes, is the location filming that they did in South Africa, but maybe that’s just the Saffer in me speaking?

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is not the best film in the series, it's also not the worst. It sits somewhere in that middle ground. The DVD fares no better, with only two special features which are really just retrospectives into the history of the franchise. All in all, not a bad purchase, but not a good one either.
